The big three DO NOT deserve a bailout

Before I write about why I believe the big three should not be getting a bailout (and before I get all the hate mail), readers should know I’m not an economist and I have not followed the demise of the those companies closely. This is just my point of view as an average american not directly affected by the problem.

Management of the three auto companies proved to be inneffective. They (executives) allowed the UAW to demand too much and they have also taken too much. Over the past few weeks several networks have analyzed the actual price to manufacture a vehicle by one of the big three and by the foreign manufacturers’ plants. The hourly wage of the production workers is about the same, the big difference are the benefits. Apparently a GM worker gets much better healthcare services than an average american, during their time as a worker and even after they are no longer with the company.

I do not think that people without even a college degree should be making $25 hourly. While a newly graduated lawyer could be making $60,000 a year, an auto worker with a GED can make over $52,000. I’m not saying people don’t deserve to make a good living, and I’m not saying that working on manufacturing is easy, but one deserves appropiate pay for effort, knowledge and education. If I can learn your craft in a few weeks of training, you should not be making more than the average american. On the other hand, if you are outstanding and unique at your job, you should make more than the rest (talking about a profession in sales and as a celebrity).

Why are these companies executives making several million dollars a year? are they really irreplaceable? I’m sure we can find somebody else to destroy the companies like they did. Heck, pay me 10 million a year and I promise to destroy GM even faster… well, probably not as fast and as bad as they have done.

Don’t play games with the public. Don’t drive hybrids to Washington because everyone made fun of you for flying private jets while asking for a bailout. Don’t tell me you will start making 1 dollar a year after you made some many millions. Give back your money and then ask for the taxpayers’ money.

If the auto companies deserver a bailout, any other company in the country does too. Why can’t a dog food producing company doesn’t deserve as much money as the big three? Because “they employ thousands of people”?… come on, it would be better if we provide training for all those thousands of people and help them work on a different industry.

I can go on and on, but there is no need to over explain my point of view. The american car manufacturing companies simply do not deserve a bailout.
